Did you know:

It is the responsibility of the Wastewater Facilities to:

(1) administer the Operations and Maintenance of the Water Reclamation and Effluent Irrigation Facilities

(2) To insure that operations will meet all Federal, State and Local requirements.

(3) To continue implementation of the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program as a method of source reduction of toxic compounds in the City's collection system and treatment plant.

(4) To operate and maintain, with as high a degree of efficiency attainable, the City's pump stations.

(5) To be fully prepared in cases of emergency or disasters. To utilize these facilities and equipment as intended for the protection of the community and the environment.

(6) To assist in overseeing the construction of new facilities within the collection system such as pumping stations, force mains and gravity sewers and

(7) to establish an aggressive preventative maintenance program in the collection system that increases capacity and velocities and reduces inflow and infiltration.

Water Reclamation Facility

Site Plan & Process Description

Arial

The city's water reclamation facility receives raw wastewater into it's influent structure, where it is passed through the trash and grit removal process.

· Next this pretreated wastewater is pumped into two separate extended aeration basins and brought into contact with microscopic organisms in the form of returned activated sludge (RAS).

Utility

· This RAS is then mixed with the activated sludge (AS) in the aeration basins.

· From here the activated sludge (AS) flows by gravity to settling basins called clarifiers.

· As the activated sludge (AS) settles to the bottom of the clarifiers the organism's continue to breakdown the organic matter, which was initiated in the aeration basins

· As the activated sludge (AS) settles, clear water is removed from the surface of the clarifiers and is sent to a chlorine contact chamber for disinfection and disposal at the City's effluent irrigation facility.

Rescue Class

· After the activated sludge (AS) has settled in the clarifiers it is drawn from the bottom and sent back to the head of the aeration basins as returned activated sludge (RAS).

· Any excess activated sludge (AS) is sent to holding tanks called digesters in the form of waste activated sludge (WAS) to continue biological decomposition (stabilization).

· From the digesters the stabilized sludge is de-watered by a belt press, then it is mixed with calcium oxide (lime) and the PH is raised to 12.0 for two hours and then held for twenty-two hours at a PH of 11.5.

· After the sludge has been stabilized it is then transported to local farmland to be used as a fertilizer supplement.
